about

Live in Casa del Lago UNAM; 2020

The encounter between Shiva Feshareki and Leslie García has been a catalyst for multiple sonic, visual, archivist and technological approaches that synthesize in this album just one of their multiple potencies.

As acknowledged by the title of the series Electronic Pioneers, inaugurated with this concert in January of 2020 in the heart of the Chapultepec forest, in Casa de Lago UNAM —a space and forum that now goes by the name of Alicia Urreta—, the concert seeks to reimagine the electronic part of contemporary music and its own historical lines, those that allows us to understand the plurality of the scene from diverse technologies and aesthetic, artistic and political programmes that generated it; as well as count on different ways to make a new understanding of that scene, visibilizating the important work of several femenine creators, producers, instrumentalists and programmers that have developed the scene.

Electronic Pioneers also has the mission of establishing a dialogue on historical terms: to track these backgrounds in the origins of the seminal work and understand it in a new present as those women that turn into our pioneers, the contemporary pioneers. The act of listening is two folded: on one side it is a cross-sectional review that enables the sway of contemporary productions, and the side that lets us reimagine them as new.

Thus, the reunion in between the acclaimed british-iranian turntablist Shiva Feshareki and the renowned mexican artist Leslie García, both with multifaceted profiles and a domain of very diverse analogue and technological technics, also involves the references of women who produced sonic pieces during the decades preceding it, guiding the intention of reimagining from an always productive place: the improvisation, a creative space in which the process of listening of others, is fundamental in the creation of a sound setting.

The ACT Programme (Art, Science and Technologies), Max Aub Lectureship in art and technologies and Casa del Lago UNAM proudly see this collaborative result as the sum of several hands and ears: in the post-production by Leslie García, as well as the gathering, assemblage and launch by the mexican independent label OTONO.

Uniting new legacies to this story, yet with many upcoming possible new lectures and listens is always a celebration. Let us celebrate then, Electronic Oscillations in all its potencies, textures and imaginative drifts, hoping that its listen will be of enlightenment to everyone.
