For this piece, Otono introduces a special single with Sajjra, aka Christian Galarreta, a peruvian musician who has a history in psychedelic ambient, electronica and several experiments in drone music, even gracing pure field recordings or chamber music in his over twenty five year spanning career. This legend from the south cone has traveled afar playing and living through several places of Europe, opening the path for Latin American music through diverse installations, exhibitions, concerts, festivals, and also site specific concepts of sound art works.
The latter years find Sajjra in a deep search originating among his own peruvian roots, developing from indigenous cosmovisions of the past, present and future, and the processing of ancestral rituals in a post-modern era, which altogether become the essence of his new album Serpent is Present, represented by the analogy of the serpent travelling from under and all over the Earth through regions, time and space. Transmuting in its own end and being reborn in an ever-ending present which seeks and connects with nature. In this case, nature is symbolized by a renaissance of subterranean and clandestine spaces, reemerging in the post-pandemic era and reuniting in the resistance of this period, reflecting upon new encounters and the blossoming of the spirit of underground music.
This is one of Sajjra’s most personal and powerful releases, as well as one of the most mystical. The “SRPNT S PRSNT” single precedes a Full Moon and a full album that represents the idea of traveling beings who navigate historical ancestry and cross over eastern-infused influences from a timeless perspective, portraying them through visual processes and culminating as the transcendence of his own sonic explorations, in a new present and a new world. The release sees light first as a lenticular/3D postcard through his own imprint Aloardi, then with a tape single including the first rework by mexican ambient musician Flores de Mezcalapa through Otono; and finally as a full CD release through the french label specialized in drone music, Arsenic Solaris.
It is an honor for Otono Records, to be part of this triple and worldwide collaboration, releasing the single of “SRPNT S PRSNT” by Sajjra, including the first remix by Flores de Mezcalapa in a cassette tape edition, limited to 30 copies pressed in Mexico and spreading a strong message of art, music and intersectional union.
